Andreas Johnsson, also with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Moore provided the rest of the offense for Toronto.
The Leafs' lead didn't last long, as Bruins centre David Krejci netted his first of the playoffs at the 3:30 mark to tie it up. Tuukka Rask stopped 31 shots for visitors in front of a crowd of 19,611 at Scotiabank Arena.
The Bruins evened their opening round playoff series 1-1 with their win on Saturday.
April 09, 2016 Missed the last 4 regular season games (suspended by nhl). Saturday night's Game 2 turned violent with Boston's Jake DeBrusk and Toronto's Nazem Kadri engaging in several altercations. "They upped their compete level".
Kadri certainly won't get the benefit of the doubt with his suspension history. Boston has scored just five goals in their first two games of this series, but they have still averaged a solid 3.80 gpg over their last 10 games.
The Bruins did suffer some major injuries though as DeBrusk is likely concussed, as is defenseman Torey Krug from a Jake Muzzin hit. It is Kadri's fifth career suspension and his second playoff ban.
In the last decade, Toronto has been unable to overcome Boston in the first round twice - once in 2013 and again last season, falling in seven games in both series.
"Just a team effort", Rielly said.
With Nazem Kadri and the apparent voluntary forfeiture of depth through the middle dominating the discourse leading into Game 3, the focus was directed primarily to William Nylander's transition to third-line centre and the heightened pressure that now faced the Toronto Maple Leafs' top two units.
God of War's Anniversary Celebration Includes a Free Theme, But No DLC
As a special anniversary gift to God of War fans, Sony is giving PS4 owners an unbelievable new dynamic theme for free. Change to a longstanding franchise comes with immeasurable doubt, a studio defining risk and a huge leap of faith.
NBC Sports Washington analyst Alan May said prior to Game 3 that the play was risky and should be one that's kept out of the league, and therefore, the punishment should have been more severe.
The Maple Leafs meanwhile perhaps deserved a much better fate in their Game 2 loss to the Bruins as they had some ugly goals given up but at no fault to Frederik Andersen who was absolutely spectacular in the Maple Leafs crease. However, a player that could receive six or more games is offered an in-person hearing with the DPOS. The video embedded below will give you a great idea how this game went.
Not only was Kadri briefly knocked out of the game due to a controversial open-ice hit by DeBrusk, but DeBrusk hit Patrick Marleau into the turnbuckle just prior to the cross-check.
This, of course, comes after Kadri was suspended for three games in the first round against the Bruins previous year after he hit Boston forward Tommy Wingels along the boards in Game 1. He is an excellent third line center and is under a good contract.
Mar 13, 2015 Missed 3 games (disciplinary).
All hell is breaking loose in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
With critics slamming Kadri for being selfish and out of control the last two post-seasons, the Leafs could find some relief by getting rid of his $4.5-million (U.S.) cap hit.
Especially since those hockey talents make him so valuable that the Maple Leafs cannot afford to lose him when he inevitably does resort to those shenanigans that get him removed from the lineup.
