Free agent linebacker Clay Matthews has agreed to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams, the team announced on Tuesday.

Sources told the NFL Network that Matthews' two-year contract has a max value of $16.75 million. Matthews had more lucrative offers on the table but wanted to play close to home, according to the report.

Drafted by the Packers in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Matthews spent 10 successful seasons in Green Bay where he was a Pro Bowl selection six times and an All-Pro during the 2010 season.

Matthews went to high school in Agoura Hills, California, and he lives in nearby Calabasas with his wife and growing family.

Matthews registered only 3.5 sacks during the 2018 season, the lowest single-season total of his career. Both towns are near the Rams' training complex in Thousand Oaks. He has recorded 83 1/2 sacks over 143 National Football League games.
