Facebook, Instagram connectivity problems continue, not DDoS attack

Social media users are reporting problems accessing Facebook on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Down Detector, a website that tracks online service interruptions, most of the outage was in Europe and on America's East and West coasts.

Regulators, investigators and elected officials in the United States and elsewhere in the world have already been digging into the data sharing practices of Facebook.

Some folks get a warning that says Facebook is doing "required maintenance" while others are getting a full on error message with the note, "We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can".

Those on Instagram were not able to refresh feeds or post new material.

Facebook showed signs of recovery this morning after suffering a partial outage that affected users across the world for more than 14 hours.

It is not known if this is a planned outage, a problem with their servers, or if the service is under attack. Facebook users it seems like in the US, UK and India are certainly facing issues regarding logging into Facebook. Facebook wrote it was "investigating" the issue.
