YouTube Premium, YouTube Music launched in India; pricing starts Rs 99

YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now officially available in India

"Starting with YouTube Music, there's an ad-supported version for free, wherein users can listen to official songs, albums, several playlists and artists" radios, and remixes. This will be personalised according to user usage. That'll see it compete with the likes of global heavyweights Spotify (which went live there last month) and Apple Music, as well as local incumbents like JioSaavn, Gaana, and Wynk. "It's interesting to note how Indian artists have consistently claimed top spots over the last few months in the Global YouTube Top Artists chart", said Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music, YouTube, in a statement.

T. Jay Fowler, director of product management, music products, YouTube, said, "We know that India loves watching music videos on YouTube - be it the vibrancy, choreography, stars and glamour".

In addition to ad-free, background, and offline playback, with YouTube Premium users can access all YouTube originals like Cobra kai, BTS: Burn The Stage, at a fee of Rs 129 a month.

"Samsung Galaxy S10 users can enjoy four months of free, ad-free access to YouTube Premium", said the company.

In a bid to grab a pie of the growing Indian audio streaming industry, Google-owned YouTube on Tuesday announced the launch of its new music streaming app YouTube Music in the country.

"We are seeing lot of engagement across diverse set of content in India and India is exporting tremendous amount of music culture. From recommended music videos, live performances, covers, to new videos - it's all here, and only here". There will be a music home screen that dynamically changes based on your interests and what's trending.

Various playlists across various genres, moods, activity, and language, to allow you to discover new songs. All one need's to do is use prompts like, "That rap song with flute", or lyrics (even if they're wrong) like "Starbucks lovers".

And after evaluating the kernel code in Samsung's Galaxy S10 , XDA Developers discovered a reference to a "davinci5G". The codename was revealed by Samsung insider Ice Universe all the way back in September a year ago .

If you are a user who doesn't want ads, then YouTube has another option as well, which is YouTube Music Premium.

Users can also download their favorite tracks.

For paid members, "Offline Mixtape" feature automatically downloads up to 100 songs they might like on their mobile device.

The YouTube Music app is available on both, Android and iOS, and can be downloaded off their respective App Stores.

Having launched YouTube Music in the United States back in May 2018, the app is finally coming to India and if you love listening to covers and folk music that isn't readily available anywhere else but on YouTube, there couldn't be better news.

The pricing has been kept very simple as of now.
