Hosseini pointed to a 32-strong delegation of Iranian private sector's business people accompanying President Hassan Rouhani in an ongoing trip to Iraq, saying the presidential visit will produce flawless results for the private sector.

"The vision of Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi towards such issues asserts that Baghdad would not be drawn into policies that contradict the Iraqi interest", MP Abdullah al-Kharbit told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Rouhani left Iran for Iraq at the official invitation of Baghdad.

According to the website of the president's office, Rouhani visited the holy shrines of Imam Musa Kadhim (AS) and Imam Mohammad al-Jawad (AS) in Kadhimiya on Monday.

These relations could not be compared to Baghdad's ties "with an aggressor country like America", he said.

"Baghdad might become the scene of a new round of upcoming talks between the United States and Iran concerning the nuclear crisis", he said.

His visit to Iraq is the first since he became president in 2013.

‘Good news’ for Iran soon, PM Imran tells President Rouhani

Speaking to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on phone, Iran's president Dr Hassan Rouhani said,"We are witnessing many terrorist attacks by terrorists who are unfortunately located on the Pakistani soil, and in dealing with these terrorists, whose existence are not in favour of us, you and the region, we are fully ready to cooperate with the Pakistani army and government".

It is also Iran's response to President Donald Trump's snap December trip to Iraq and the American president's comments that USA forces should stay in Iraq to keep an eye on neighbouring Iran, with which Iraq shares a 1,400-kilometre-long (870 miles) border.

President Rouhani said that Pakistan and Iran are neighbours and brotherly countries linked through centuries of closed historic cultural and people to people linkages. But since the US -led invasion of Iraq in 2003, which ousted Hussein, Iran has bolstered its influence much to the chagrin of the United States.

Iran has accused Saudi Arabia, Israel and the USA for helping fund terrorist violence against them.

Iranian media have speculated that Rouhani may also be granted a meeting with Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the reclusive 88-year-old spiritual leader of Iraqi Shiites and one of the most senior clerics in Shiite Islam.

The Iranian president is slated to meet with Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi and a number of prominent lawmakers.

Salih and Iran's President Hassan Rouhani spoke on the relations between the two countries. The United States reimposed its near-total trade embargo on Iran in the fall, after President Trump said he would withdraw from a 2015 nuclear accord that curbed Iran's atomic energy program in exchange for major sanctions relief.
