He said there was agreement "in draft" on the first two issues.

The prime minister said that Germany was an important partner of Pakistan in the national development and progress.

The US special representative for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad on Tuesday said that after agreement on withdrawal and counterterrorism, the next steps would be intra-Afghan negotiations for a political settlement and comprehensive ceasefire.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke on Tuesday at a news conference with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in Islamabad.

The 16 days of talks in the Qatari capital Doha produced an agreement "in draft" on a troop withdrawal timeline and counterterrorism assurances, USA special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad said on Twitter.

FM Qureshi apprised him that Prime Minister Imran Khan released the captured Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman as a goodwill gesture towards belligerent India.

Earlier in December 2018, German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler said that Germany was looking to import manpower by 2020, and in this drive of employing foreign human resources, Pakistan could prove to be an essential contributor.

The German Foreign Minister said "Pakistan is playing an important role in Afghanistan, being a responsible regional country also, we think that Afghan government has to be part of the process for a sustainable peace in the region", he added.

The German foreign minister appreciated Pakistan's efforts for restoration of peace in Afghanistan, the statement added.

The Taliban have held multiple rounds of talks with United States negotiators, but have so far refused to negotiate directly with the Afghan government or commit to a ceasefire amid almost daily attacks. He particularly lauded Islamabad's role in the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The latest meetings follow marathon talks in January that saw the USA and the Taliban walk away with a "draft framework" on the two issues.

Qureshi declared that Pakistan adopted certain measures to de-escalate the tensions with India, adding that the dialogue between the two neighbours is the only way forward.

His visit came amid Indian aggression against Pakistan following the Pulwama attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IOK).

The minister suggested negotiations to resolve the conflict including resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Qureshi said he also discussed with his German counterpart the idea of establishing a joint foreign trade chamber saying this will be a very positive step towards enhancing bilateral economic and trade relations between the two countries.
