The former 2015 second-round pick will sign a six-year deal with Washington worth $84 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Following the end of the 2018 season, Mathieu claimed that it was extremely important that he remain in Houston as a member of the Texans.

After early reports that Mathieu had turned down a $9.5 million per year offer to stay with the Houston Texans and would explore the National Football League free agency market, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday night that the Chiefs will sign the star-caliber safety. The New Orleans native previously played five years for the Arizona Cardinals.

The Kansas City Chiefs addressed their biggest weakness on the first day of free agency by signing former Houston Texans safety Tryann Mathieu.
