New versions of Android are usually released in the second half of the year, with the latest stable version - Android 9 Pie - having reached Pixel devices in August last year.

A Google developer or someone with insider ties has already run Geekbench on a Pixel 2 that is reporting Android Q as the operating system. That shows you the problems with fragmentation that Android still has.

We have seen reports that even more phones will be receiving the Beta this year so it looks like their could be a lot of folks playing with the next version of Android int he next few days. We're looking at even more handsets than past year, although no specific models were named.

Google Pixel series owners will be able to download and install the Android Q developer preview on their phones. These seven devices were namely the Essential PH-1, Nokia 7 Plus, OnePlus 6, Oppo R15 Pro, Sony Xperia XZ2, Vivo X21 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

First spotted my Mishaal Rahman from XDA Developers the bug tracker for Android Q Beta has been opened up by Google. The number is bigger for the upcoming Android release, which I am very happy about. And I think it was for the first time we had all of these companies line up to do developer previews and betas for Android Pie well ahead of the AOSP publication date.

We always love to hear about the new Android version and its features. I can not share the exact numbers yet.

That should be exciting news to anyone looking to test the new version of Android, whether they're developers or not. Of course, we'll have to wait till May this year to definitively know the final list of smartphone makers on board with the Android Q beta programme.
