Why Mauro Icardi is no longer Inter Milan’s captain

Mauro Icardi: Argentine striker stripped of Inter Milan captaincy

Mauro Icardi has refused to travel for Inter Milan's Europa League match with Rapid Vienna after being stripped of the captaincy at Inter Milan.

Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has been named Icardi's replacement.

Reports of Icardi losing the captaincy took an unusual turn on Tuesday when Inter's Spanish Twitter account displayed a picture of him handing the armband to Lautaro Martinez, accompanied by the "soon" emoji, which was later deleted.

Despite remaining under contract at the club until 2021, Icardi's future has been the subject of a huge amount of speculation this season - with his wife and agent Wanda Nara notoriously unpredictable in her dealings with the club.

The Argentina global trained with the squad on Wednesday but was a notable absentee when Inter named the 19-man party who would travel to Austria for the first leg of their last-32 tie.

"But it was divided between all parts of the club and was made exclusively for the good of Inter".

Joe Root's retort was natural, organic and rather wonderful
Inspired by a Mark Wood spell which knocked over the hosts for 154, Joe Root and men are now in a commanding position. There was no formal hearing with the match referee, Jeff Crowe, after he accepted the charge.

Spalletti also reacted angrily to Nara's latest remarks and he spoke with the club's new general manager Beppe Marotta - who has already taken a heavy-handed approach by suspending Radja Nainggolan for turning up late for training last month - on Tuesday to discuss the issue, which was starting to cause disturbances within the team.

'Things around him have disturbed him and the team he captained.

Icardi has scored 122 goals and registered 26 assists in 210 games since joining the club from Sampdoria in April 2013 for a reported €6.5 million.

"I have not created any problems for Icardi", Spalletti told DAZN.

"There will be time to clear things up in the coming days, but as far as I am concerned, this is all I have to say on Mauro". Chelsea will never get a better chance to sign him.
