India had lost wickets in quick successions. For the second wicket, the two right-handed batsmen added 75 runs in less than 7 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan fell early in the India reply but Rohit Sharma (38) and, in particular, Vijay Shankar (43) kept the tourists up with the required rate.

India, who came into the three T20Is on the back of their crushing 4-1 win in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand, failed to continue their dominance and slump to a humiliating 80-run defeat in the opening T20I at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

Colin Munro struck a 40-ball 72 as New Zealand pipped India by four runs in the third and final Twenty20 worldwide at Hamilton to seal a 2-1 series victory on Sunday.

Runs came thick and fast as skipper Kane Williamson contributed 27 and Colin de Grandhomme produced a crucial 30-run cameo off 16-balls. Even the 200 plus strike rates of Karthik and Krunal could not help India win the match.

Dinesh Karthik and Krunal Pandya were trying to score big runs in every ball to help India win, however, a small mistake did lead to the team losing the series.

Having said that, it was a 63-run unbeaten partnership for the seventh wicket between Dinesh Karthik (33) and Krunal Pandya (26) which saw India stay alive in the game till the last three balls of the match.
