Va. Democrats Call For Fairfax's Resignation After 2nd Accuser Comes Forward

Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax presides over the Senate at the Virginia State Capitol

The latest: McAuliffe says Fairfax should resign

"The one thing I want to make abundantly clear is that in both situations I knew at the time, and I know today, that the interactions were consensual", Fairfax said. He called the allegation "demonstrably false".

His words appear to also reference two sexual assault allegations against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax as well as the admission of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring that he wore blackface during a party in college.

But Friday's accusation sparked a round of calls for his resignation, and even the threat of impeachment. And a Democratic member of the state House, Del.

The sexual allegations against Fairfax come following Gov. Ralph Northam's shocking medical school yearbook photo of someone in blackface and another person in a KKK hood surfacing. That was followed by separate admissions from Northam, 59, and Herring, 57, that each had darkened their faces during the 1980s to imitate black performers, a practice widely considered to be racist.

Fairfax promptly denied the allegations and said he will not resign. "I want to stand here in that truth and restate that my truth, as well as the truth of Dr. Tyson and Ms. Watson, should be fully investigated and thoroughly assessed", Fairfax's statement said, also calling on the FBI to "investigate fully and thoroughly the allegations against me".

Top Democrats running for president in 2020 called for Fairfax's resignation, including Sens.

Fairfax had briefly seemed poised earlier this week to succeed Northam to become the second African-American governor in Virginia's history.

"I demand a full investigation into these unsubstantiated and false allegations", he said, according to the New York Times.

The Rosalind Franklin rover will also be a pioneer in studying the building blocks of life, this time on Mars. Her contribution was not recognised in many science books until the 1990s.

Watson, Trinity '01, claimed Fairfax raped her when they were undergraduate students.

Watson's lawyer said the circumstances of the alleged assault in 2000 were similar to what Tyson had described happening four years later, but declined to provide further details.

In response to Fairfax's denials, Meredith Watson's lawyer released a statement claiming she was also raped by a basketball player and, when she reported the attack to a school administrator, received no assistance.

"What I have just expressed is the truth", he said.

The law firm said Watson had "shared her account of the rape with friends in a series of emails and Facebook messages that are now in our possession". Watson allegedly told Adams that the assault happened at a fraternity house: "She said she couldn't speak, but she was trying to get up and he kept pushing her down". The allegation surfaced after California college professor Dr. Vanessa Tyson accused the Virginia Democrat on Wednesday of forcing her to perform oral sex on him during the 2004 Democrat National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts.

The tumult in Virginia began late last week, with the discovery of the photo on Northam's yearbook profile page that showed someone in blackface standing beside another person in a Ku Klux Klan hood and robe.

The governor also said in the interview that he would take "a harder line" on moving the state's Confederate monuments, which have become lightning rods for racial division, from public property into museums.
