Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Childish Gambino - nominees in all or most of the big three categories - also opted out of performing; however, representatives for the artists have not confirmed if they will attend the show.

As for the awards, Lamar leads this year's nominations with a total of eight nods, including album of the year for the "Black Panther" soundtrack followed closely by Drake who scored seven nominations.

Six of the best new artist nominees are women, including H.E.R., Chloe x Halle, Margo Price, Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha and Jorja Smith. The event also highlighted her organization Fem the Future, which empowers women in music to take on roles as engineers, producers, music video directors and more.
