J.T. Realmuto rescued by Philadelphia

Phillies prospect Sixto Sanchez a 'must' for Miami Marlins in JT Realmuto trade

Marlins Demanding Prospect From Phillies In J.T. Realmuto Trade

The reason for that is that the Marlins asking price has been extremely high, mainly because they are unhappy with the returns they got for the other stars they traded a year ago like Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna.

The Marlins traded catcher J.T. Realmuto to the Phillies for three prospects, including top right-handed pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, catcher Jorge Alfaro and left-handed starting pitcher Will Stewart, as well as an global bonus slot.

Sanchez pitched just 46⅔ innings in Single A last season due to right elbow inflammation, but Hill said the Marlins are "extremely comfortable" about his health.

"He's been playing half his game in Miami", Klentak said.

The J.T. Realmuto trade saga finally is over. Plus, he isn't eligible for arbitration until next year and won't be a free agent until 2021.

Realmuto, whom many consider the best catcher in baseball, is under contract for two more years.

Maker is still coming to Detroit, but Johnson is on his way to New Orleans, per National Basketball Association insider Kevin Smith.

Klentak said he first inquired about Realmuto last summer and again early in the offseason.

Realmuto has a career.279 batting average, 59 home runs and 243 RBI. He hit.262 with 10 homers in his first full major league season previous year and showed a strong arm, but had 11 errors and 10 passed balls. But in an offseason in which the White Sox have loaded up their roster with pals of Manny Machado - including his brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso - perhaps the Phillies bringing in Realmuto would put them over the top.

Sanchez, 21, was considered the No. 1 prospect in the Phillies' system and is considered the 27th-best prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He also struck out an alarming 179 times, or more than 35% of his 508 plate appearances.

Miami's rebuilding project will probably continue for several years under CEO Derek Jeter, whose group bought the team after the 2017 season.

"We have heard outstanding things about J.T. and his work ethic and his makeup and his leadership and the type of teammate he is", Klentak said. "A pitcher who we think can develop and lead a championship rotation", Hill said.
