Manafort, the convicted former Trump campaign chairman, is accused of lying to special counsel Robert Mueller's prosecutors about both of those interactions with the associate, Konstantin Kilimnik. That could change, assuming that Trump's lying about this, but Mueller wouldn't have put this much effort into publicly undermining Manafort's credibility as a witness if that was a likely possibility.
He said that agreement would be a "conspiracy", whether or not the Trump campaign actually got anything of value from the Russians.
Asked on Thursday about the allegation against Manafort - which was meant to be hidden from the public within a court filing from the former campaign chief's lawyers - Trump said he "didn't know anything about it".
The defense filing was aimed at rebutting allegations that Manafort intentionally lied to Mueller's team after agreeing to plead guilty last September.
Manafort's lawyers said any incorrect statements by him were unintentional.
Akhmetov is one of the richest men in Ukraine and bankrolled the Party of Regions, a Ukrainian political party aligned with Moscow that Manafort worked to bolster.
Manafort's attorneys filed a new version of the 10-page document more than an hour later with the U.S. District Court in Washington that again blacked out the material, but by then the earlier version had been downloaded and shared widely on the internet. Prosecutors say Manafort acknowledged the meeting only after being told that they were in the same city on the same day.

Sarri said: "I think that it's not professional, because they are talking about a player under contract with Chelsea ". First, you have to take the big step to achieve it. "Then I don't know what to say, I don't know the situation".
"Such a failure is unsurprising here, where these occurrences happened during a period when Mr. Manafort was managing a US presidential campaign and had countless meetings, email communications, and other interactions with many different individuals, and traveled frequently", the Manafort attorneys argued.
"Issues and communications related to Ukrainian political events simply were not at the time forefront of Mr. Manafort's mind during the period at issue and it is not surprising at all that Manafort was unable to recall specific details prior to having his recollection refreshed", they said.
A statement to CNN on behalf of Akmetov said: "Mr. Akhmetov never requested nor received any polling data or any other information about the 2016 USA elections from Paul Manafort or Konstantin Kilimnik".
In addition to the polling data revelation, the filing also showed that Mueller believes Manafort lied to prosecutors about his discussions with Kilimnik about a "Ukrainian peace plan" and a previously undisclosed meeting between Manafort and Kilimnik in Madrid.
They say the same about his recollection of sharing polling data with Kilimnik related to the campaign.
