Kubiak and the Broncos reportedly had different ideas on his staff and the offensive philosophy.
Shortly before his news conference to introduce himself as the Broncos' new head coach, Vic Fangio met with Gary Kubiak about a possibility. A Hall of Fame lineman himself, Munchak built the Steelers' offensive line into one of the best in the NFL.
"None of the assistant coaching positions have been determined yet, and until things are ironed out and ironclad, I prefer not to comment on that", Fangio said Thursday afternoon.

After talking with Munchak, the Broncos thought there could be a fit because of his coaching style and his desire to live in Denver, where he has immediate family. Kubiak is still listed as a senior personnel advisor on the Broncos' website, but it seems likely that he will leave the team to return to coaching.
Kubiak's zone-run scheme seemed like a flawless fit, much in the way his offense fit seventh-round pick Justin Forsett in Baltimore.
Kubiak stepped down after the 2016 season, though, citing health reasons. But he is still under contract with the Broncos, so there is a chance he stays in a front office role - though that remains to be seen.
