Indiana Health Department: 4 flu deaths so far this season

Here's How Many People Have Caught the Flu So Far This Season (Hint: It's a Lot)

Flu Season Is Picking Up. Here's How Many People Have Already Gotten Sick

While states such as California and North Carolina have seen significant numbers of flu-related deaths this season, USA health officials said Friday that the nationwide impact of influenza seems to be milder than last winter.

If the current strain continues to be the predominant virus, it is what the head of the epidemiology and prevention branch of CDC's flu division expects.

Almost the entire state of Alabama is experiencing "widespread" flu activity, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health, indicating that flu season has entered its most virulent period.

With the flu now spreading throughout the United States, it's still not too late to get vaccinated.

It's hard to gauge how lethal the flu season has been for children across the country because Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia don't track influenza-related deaths in real time.

"The system continuously evaluates the predictive power of each independent method and recalibrates how this information should be used to produce improved flu estimates", says Santillana.

The CDC has no estimate of deaths so far this season, partly because it's so early.

The report naturally caused concern amongst lawmakers and privacy advocates. "It will end in March , as planned and promised". They also need to educate users on their rights when it comes to data.

The Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has already advised people to take precautions to protect themselves from the flu.

About 6 million to 7 million Americans have become ill since flu season kicked off in the fall.

Half went to their doctor for help, and up to 84,000 were so sick they had to be hospitalized. However, these numbers are estimated using a mathematical model, based on observed rates of laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations.

While other strains of influenza often primarily affect adults over the age of 65, this year's H1N1 strain is hitting younger adults and children. Although the yearly impact of influenza varies, it affects the health of New Yorkers each season.

The Ministry of Health said that people who want the flu vaccine can get in touch with their public health offices.

The paper says last flu season, the clinic saw about 400 patients and was open for approximately one month during the height of that severe flu season.
