Following the release of Part 1 of the Surviving R. Kelly docuseries on Lifetime on the USA, R. Kelly's legal team sent a letter warning the company that should the six-part docuseries air as intended, Kelly would file a federal lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Kelly has continued to maintain his marriage to Aaliyah never happened, telling a 2016 interview with GQ: "Because of Aaliyah's passing, as I've always said, out of respect for her mother who's sick and her father who's passed, I will never have that [marriage] conversation with anyone".

The following year, Chance the Rapper made a cameo in Kelly's "Backyard Party" video and collaborated with the singer on "Somewhere in Paradise".

Chance's comments were later misunderstood, with many thinking he was saying he didn't care about the allegations because the accusers were black.

"As details reemerge and new information is brought to light, R. Kelly's longtime record label, RCA, has a choice: believe these women or continue to enable the abuse of Black women and girls for the sake of profit", the statement said.

Kevin Spacey expected in court Monday to face sex assault charges
Spacey's arraignment comes more than a year after the busboy's mother went public with the allegations against Spacey. His first accuser, actor Anthony Rapp, said Spacey climbed on top of him on a bed when Rapp was 14 and Spacey 26.

Numerous women came forward in the docuseries in which friends, family, and accusers opened up about their alleged relationships with Kelly, 51, who has been accused of pursuing relationships with underage women - several of whom he allegedly met at the mall or high schools. John Legend was the only major celebrity from the music industry to speak on camera against Kelly for the documentary. I just want to understand what I'm missing. In the longer clip, he discusses the oppression of black men and his awareness that black women are a more "oppressed and violated" group of people "in comparison with the whole world".

Chance The Rapper appeared on the finale of Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly documentary series. As hampton links in a recent interview, it's that ongoing revenue that continually allows Kelly to settle sexual assault claims out of court.

Smith says in a video she tweeted on Sunday that she's having a "really hard time understanding why" Kelly's music sales and streaming have reportedly increased since the docuseries premiered. As the trial dragged on for years, R. Kelly used the intervening time to drop some of the biggest hits of his career including Step In The Name of Love and Ignition (Remix) from his #1 album Chocolate Factory, cementing himself as a superstar and giving him time to rebuild his reputation and relationships damaged by the allegations.

In 2002, Kelly was charged with 21 counts of child pornography for a videotape that allegedly showed him having sex with an unidentified underage girl. Dash has now revealed to Hip-Hop Motivation that R. Kelly and Aaliyah were at the center of that falling out which ultimately damaged his friendship with Jay. "I believe these women and don't give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist".
