That Snapdragon Mobile flagship is none other than the successor to the Snapdragon 845 that powers this year's Galaxy S9 and Note 9.

Exactly when LG will announce its next flagship phone is a little up in the air, but we may see it at Mobile World Congress and it's likely to feature the Snapdragon 855. Qualcomm, of course, doesn't make the devices itself, only the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, but it has a vested interest in making sure that there's more than just fast download speeds to tempt consumers into upgrading. This chip is based on the TSMC's 7nm process and its performance has been improved significantly. The new ISP will be four times more efficient than its predecessor. The key feature of the Snapdragon 855 chip, launched at an event in Hawaii, is the 5G Snapdragon X50 modem for phones to connect to 5G wireless data networks with "multi-gigabit" mobile data speeds of up to 50 or 100 times faster than current 4G networks.

Just like the "GPU Turbo" mode on Huawei and Honor smartphones powered Kirin chipsets, Qualcomm also introduced the new "Snapdragon Elite Gaming" for an enhanced gaming experience.

For now, it is not known if any companies have adopted Qualcomm's new sensor for their products.
