The House has canceled all votes for the week and the Senate has postponed votes until after the Wednesday funeral of former President George H.W. Bush.
The Bush family, led by son and former President George W Bush, accompanied the patriarch's body on the flight aboard Air Force One from Texas to Joint Base Andrews outside Washington, and then on a final trip down Pennsylvania Avenue to the steps of the Capitol.
The official ceremonies honoring the late George H.W. Bush began Monday as his family watched members of the U.S. Secret Service carry his casket from a funeral chapel in Houston to a waiting hearse. He died in Texas, his home state, late Friday at the age of 94 after several years of failing health.

Retired Gen Colin Powell, who as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff was Bush's top military adviser, said Bush was the "perfect American" and should be remembered for "a life of quality, a life of honor, a life of honesty, a life of total concern for the American people".

Barbara Bush died on April 17 at their Houston home. But he offered nothing but praise in the hours after the former president's death was announced.
