Trump hails Finnish forest management

Asked on Saturday whether he thought climate change had a role in the fires, he said "you have a lot of factors".

He said: "Managing the forest is part of it".

And while visiting the town of Paradise, which has been nearly completely leveled by the flames, Mr Trump suggested America could follow Finland's example.

Pyry Luminen posted a photo of herself pretending to hoover the forest floor, while Teemu Pasila tweeted that he was busy raking "some 228,000 square kilometres of forest". The U.S. leader has faced mockery from Finns after suggesting that Finnish people take care of their forest floors by "raking" them.

"I told him that Finland is a country covered in forests, but we also have a good warning system and network", the president said.

Thousands of miles across the Atlantic, people in Finland are making a mockery out of President Donald Trump after the USA leader called on Americans to be more like Finns and take care of their forest floors by "raking and cleaning and doing things".

He told a local newspaper that he had briefed Trump on Finland's efforts to surveil and care for its forests, the Associated Press wrote, "but said he can't recall anything being mentioned on raking". And besides, 80% of the country is classified as forest land. VERY DRY. Fire love very hot very dry.

Maybe it wasn't Niinisto who gave Trump the raking idea.

"The fire was right over there and they were raking trees, little trees like this, nut trees, little bushes that you could see were totally dry, weeds".

Some even claimed the advert was a thinly veiled promotion for upcoming biopic Rocketman , featuring Taron Egerton as Sir Elton. What is the most memorable gift you've received?

"I was watching the firemen the other day, and they were raking areas". "We're going to have safe forests".

"Just been out in the forest raking".

"His [Mr Trump's] general sentiment is correct - that we need to manage fuels", she said. So what is causing the California forest fires then?

Firefighters in California are now battling the deadliest blaze in the state's history.

Citing a conversation with his Finnish counterpart, Mr Trump said they spend "a lot of time on raking and cleaning".

Mr Trump is a noted climate change sceptic, and rejects it exacerbates the conditions which lead to fires.

Hashtags playing on some of Mr Trump's famous slogans were trending on social media in Finland, with many Finnish users making memes around #rakenews and #rakeamericagreatagain. "And when they do, it's a very small problem".
