Special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of prosecutors are in the process of writing a final report on the almost 18-month long investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 election, sources tell ABC News.

"Whitaker has to recuse himself under DOJ's regulation requiring recusal if you have a personal or political relationship with someone substantially involved in conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution", Shaub told Reuters.

Also, some of the leads developed by Mueller already have been turned over to other Justice Department units, including the USA attorney in Manhattan.

In Chicago, hundreds of people gathered in Federal Plaza and marched through downtown streets to Trump Tower.

The move means that Whitaker will oversee Robert Mueller's investigation into potential coordination between Russian Federation and Trump's 2016 campaign.

To this point, Trump has heeded advice not to directly interfere, though a new chapter in the relationship with the probe may have begun with the appointment of Matthew Whitaker as new acting attorney general.

Louis was sacked from her job after a video went viral in which she blocked a black man from entering his own apartment building. It seems that her employer had caught on and she has now been fired due to a clear violation of the company's code of conduct.

That's raising questions about the fate of Mueller's investigation. Whitaker has been critical of Mueller's investigation, and his appointment has stoked fears that he will end it. A similar protest in Portland was attended by more than 300 people. When Sessions's previous chief of staff, Jody Hunt, was departing, Sessions brought Whitaker in for an interview and came to like him, the person said.

When the Democrats take over the House, they are expected to launch numerous probes of Trump, his business interests and his administrations.

At a press conference Wednesday, Trump branded CNN reporter Jim Acosta an "enemy of the people" when he posed questions, including about the Russian Federation probe, and refused to give up the mic.

"They can play that game but we can play it better, because we have a thing called the United States Senate", the president said. Trump, who denies any collusion, has long complained about the probe, calling it a witch-hunt.

Donald Trump has installed a crony to oversee the special counsel's Trump-Russia investigation, crossing a red line set to protect the investigation.

The first was, we have heard leading Democrats, and now many people around the country today, saying Whitaker has to recuse himself because he has clearly expressed he's already made up his mind about Mueller's investigation. According to the department's most recent report, $10 million was spent from October 1, 2017, through March 31. Look, it's the Department of Justice investigation; it's not a congressional investigation.

If Sen. Graham is appointed chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he says he'll make sure President Trump's appointee gets confirmed as soon as possible. The group also urged people to pressure Congress to protect the Mueller investigation. Mueller's budget isn't affected by a current stopgap spending measure that expires on December 9.
