Wilson, who has six goals in 11 Premier League matches this season, joins Jadon Sancho and - for the U.S. game only - Wayne Rooney among the forward chosen by Southgate.

As soon as the announcement of Rooney's return to the squad was announced a number of fans were curious whether he will get to wear the captain's armband.

The Football Association announced on Sunday that Rooney would be awarded his 120th cap as a tribute to his England career which appeared to have come to an end when he retired from global football in August 2017.

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher says that the club "were worried" that Wayne Rooney would move to Real Madrid. He was a great captain for us.

He added: "I've talked a lot to the players about the important of the shirt, the history, we've brought former players back in to speak to the squad, to present shirts".

2nd T20I, India vs West Indies: India aim to wrap series
It has been a complete domination by India after they swept the Test series 2-0 and then won the one-day internationals 3-1. Rohit features twice on the list, along with full-time skipper Virat Kohli , once again with three such stands.

Southgate revealed that Rooney did not want to distract the squad ahead of the tournament, and also insisted it was the right decision to call up Rooney to face the United States on November 15. If he plays, of course he'll be the captain.

"I've not spoken to Gareth too much about how he's going to do it or how long he's going to play but it will be great to see him again and I'm sure he'll be looking forward to seeing a few of the boys". He was a fantastic player for England and it's fine by me if we want to celebrate his achievements.

"In terms of the captaincy, the last game he came on [as a substitute] with me, Jordan Henderson gave him the armband as soon as he ran on the pitch".

Kane has scored 19 goals for his country in 34 appearances and could easily break Rooney's record.

Injuries and the fitness of other players may determine whether or not Southgate hands a shock call up to 18-year-old Nelson, who has been impressing in the Bundesliga. "He's a threat running in behind defences, so this will be a good opportunity to look at him and try to see how he fits in to what we are trying to do".
