Netflix has cancelled Marvel's Luke Cage

Bushmaster Actor Mustafa Shakir Upset Over Luke Cage Cancellation

Reason For "Luke Cage" Cancellation Reportedly Revealed

Though the Marvel-Netflix show "Daredevil" just returned for its third season, some fans are anxious about what this means for the rest of "The Defenders" characters - Jessica Jones and Daredevil - now that Iron First and Luke Cage are done.

Looks like it's a not-so-sweet Christmas for the hero of Harlem. Everyone involved with Luke Cage and even those with just periphery knowledge of the series believed that a third season was an inevitability. Cheo Hodari Coker was the showrunner for the series, and Mike Colter starred as the title character.

This cancellation comes as a particular surprise as when the Iron Fist axing was reported, most insiders had heard that negotiations for a third season of Luke Cage had already been well underway and an announcement would be imminent. "Born this week. A lot of great memories", he wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture with fans.

So what happened here?

Canada natural disaster MAP: Where has the 6.8 magnitude quake hit in Canada?
An quake measuring 6.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck off the Canadian province of British Columbia early on Monday. Geophysicist Amy Vaughan told The Associated Press that there may have been some other aftershocks.

Since no deal could be struck, the show was cancelled, taking the Marvel Netflix catalog down to just a few - signaling perhaps a shift in strategy for both companies as Netflix produces more and more content which it owns in its entirety and Disney aiming to begin its own streaming service.

Petitions to bring back both Iron Fist and Luke Cage have surfaced since the two shows were cancelled. But something more powerful, like a hard punch from an immortal Iron Fist, or the long arm of cancellation from the higher-ups at Netflix or Marvel Television, not so much.

Netflix's "Luke Cage" has faded to black for the worst reason ever. I swear to God, we'd better hear something about a Heroes for Hire series like, YESTERDAY. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher are a different story though. That leaves Marvel in a bit of an odd place right now, and I guess the coming months will show this all plays out.
