Bolivar County, MS, Sheriff Kelvin Williams told WMC the grandmother, 48-year-old Carolyn Jones, has been charged in the child's death.

A MS woman was charged with murder Tuesday after her 20-month-old granddaughter was found stabbed to death and left burning inside an oven.

A stroller, a high chair, and a trash barrel of toys were seen in front of the house this morning after police had placed tape around the home.

"The only time they would come out is if they need some help, but other than that, they didn't fool with nobody", the neighbor said.

Royalty Marie Floyd (above) was 20 months old and living with her grandmother while her mother lived elsewhere. Officials will work to determine if the toddler was dead before or after being placed in the oven, according to WTVA.

Police are investigating whether the tot was alive when she was put inside the oven.

The sheriff promised to release more information to the public as it became available and vowed a thorough investigation.

"Dark days such as these can only be brightened when justice is served". "That's what's really hurting me and shocked me", one said. "I've been from St. Louis to here and some of the most horrific scenes that I've seen in law enforcement involve children", Williams said.
