"Fortnite" Developer Epic Games Launches In-Game Tournaments Tomorrow

Fortnite In-Game Tournaments Announced, All Platforms and Control Types to Compete Freely

Epic Games has revealed that there's a new vehicle on its way to Fortnite on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

However, as players earn points they will find themselves matched against players with similar point totals. Players will be awarded points based on how long they survive, and how many players they eliminate during each battle royale.

Description: Participate in the first in-game tournament, spanning across several days of daily competition! This will be the first time Fortnite players get in-game tournaments for multiple playlists.

Epic Games pledged to "assess" this during the 2019 competitive season to further refine the tournament mode in the future. Located under the battle royale events tab, these tournaments will be open to all players and, in the future, feature a scoring system which will "qualify you to win prizes". Each tournament will have a target score and players who reach the target will earn an in-game pin to mark the achievement.

Epic Games will not be separating payers across different platforms, meaning players armed with controllers will be pitted against players with keyboards and mice. According to Epic, they've been "observing the performance" of those using controllers and found they're just as competitive as keyboard and mouse players.

"Combining everyone into a single competition will allow for players to compete with their friends regardless of platforms and will allow us to place a single shining spotlight onto the world's best players, increasing prize pools and player exposure from our competitions", explained Epic.

This also applies to mobile players accustomed to touch controls on their phones and tablets.

The developers also say that they are working towards developing an "exciting and varied" tournament schedule for players of all levels to enjoy around the world. Almost 80 million people played Fortnite during the month of August, and new content was recently released for season 6 of the game.
