Despite the controversy, Warner Bros and DC Films confirm they've snatched up Gunn. and he'll now be tasked with improving the studios" much-maligned "Suicide' franchise.

Fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is reportedly "in talks" to write and possibly direct Suicide Squad sequel - crossing over from the Marvel Comics universe to the DC Comics universe.

There is now no release date for Suicide Squad 2.

Gunn moving from Marvel to DC isn't exactly a surprise, but it sure happened quickly, and the project in question is perhaps the most ideal fit for his sensibilities: Suicide Squad 2. But when Gunn was sacked by Disney for offensive tweets that resurfaced, Bautista became a very vocal supporter of Gunn. Reports are suggesting that this new movie will maybe not be a direct sequel to the first film.

On the other hand, Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movies have been both financial and critical successes.

Bautista plays Drax in the MCU but has made clear his issues with studio bosses at Disney after the firing of James Gunn earlier this year.

I've seen some baller moves in my day but man, DC grabbing James Gunn to write/maybe direct Suicide Squad 2, after Disney/Marvel stupidly kicked him to the curb, is one of the most baller moves I've ever witnessed.

Warner Bros. and representatives for Gunn did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Are you in favor of Gunn writing and directing Suicide Squad or would you rather him stay very far away from the franchise?

Suicide Squad was released in 2016 and directed by David Ayer, who will not return in that role for the sequel.

Gunn has since deleted his Twitter account, but before he did, he wrote the following statement via the social media platform: "Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo".
