Taylor Swift exhorted Americans to "get out and vote" in the forthcoming USA midterm elections as she broke Whitney Houston's record as the woman to have won the most American Music Awards.

For the month of October so far, 153,978 people have registered to vote.

Boy band BTS became the first Korean group to win an American Music Award, taking the trophy for favourite social artists. Additionally, several of gospel and R&B's heaviest hitters will assemble for what's sure to be a touching Aretha Franklin tribute.

Her logic is sound: If fans can learn to vote for their favorite music videos, why can't they apply that same skill to politics? The midterm elections on 6 November.

The 28-year-old country star stepped out to the 2018 American Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, rocking a teal suit with snazzy Gucci shoes.

The popstar - who on Sunday broke her long-held silence over political matters to announce she is voting for the Democrats - scooped tour, album, female and artist of the year.

"Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values", she said.

Other performers on the night included Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, and some other people but we've forgotten because none of them came close to this certified mome.

Late rapper, XXXTentacion, who was gunned down in June aged 20, won a posthumous award.
