Asked if he accepts that United's current run of results is not good enough, Mourinho said: "Yes, I accept".

Paul Scholes says he is sick of Jose Mourinho's moaning and has challenged the Manchester United boss to restore confidence in his players.

Mourinho's underperforming side entertain Newcastle this weekend and while a heavy defeat may prompt a different outcome, Sportsmail understands an upcoming schedule which includes fixtures with Juventus (twice), Chelsea and Manchester City will either seal his fate or buy him more time.

Toyota recalls 2.4 million Prius and Auris hybrids over stalling

"One point out of six, and we know that to improve this position we need to take three points [tomorrow]". Very, very, very good coach, a team that is always very well organised especially against the teams of the first part of the table, where their manager is very bright on his analysis of the opponent's qualities and to try and stop them.

He did offer a more detailed answer to a question about United's home form this year and the importance of winning ahead of the global break.

However, when asked to assure the fans he was doing all he could to remedy United's problems, Mourinho did not reply. Only one defeat at home all season, only one defeat in the last seven matches.

Pressure has mounted on the Portuguese coach in recent weeks after United's first 10 games yielded a return of four wins, three draws and three defeats, with one of the draws preceding a League Cup penalty shootout exit to second-tier Derby County.
