The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will monitor the Waffle House Index throughout Hurricane Florence, a practice the government agency follows when disasters occur to gage how bad a storm could get.

As Hurricane Florence, a Category 3 storm, drives toward the East Coast, Waffle House is monitoring the impending risky weather by activating its storm center. When it closes, that suggests an event was especially bad and likely to have devastating effects on the economy.

The FEMA website describes how the Waffle House Index works: "If a Waffle House store is open and offering a full menu, the index is green. Within the occasion that they're originate however luxuriate in a restricted menu, that is yellow", he talked about. "When the location has been forced to close, the index is red".

Waffle House is used as an example of how quickly a business, and therefore a community, may recover from a storm. The logic goes that the sooner a Waffle House can get back on the grid, any number of local institutions including banks, grocery stores, and post offices can start functioning again.

This tells emergency officials how the community is handling the storm.

Russian Federation will 'consider' United Kingdom request to interview Salisbury suspects
Russian Federation continues to deny the allegations with President Putin saying there was "nothing criminal" about the two men. While they acknowledged being the pair seen in images released by Scotland Yard, the men did not provide proof of their names.

The company is advising people to look for updates on Twitter. WMBF News in Myrtle Beach reported that a Waffle House there closed two days before the storm's anticipated hit: "Y'all Waffle House in Myrtle Beach is closed ahead of the storm", tweeted the station's Nia Watson. A customer-service assistant said that the company had not yet confirmed whether stores will close.

Given the southern locations of most Waffle House restaurants, they are vulnerable to hurricanes, tropical storms and flooding rains. Any location in its path could be shut down. Waffle House restaurants are known for staying open during natural disasters, and federal officials use them to determine the severity of a hurricane, tornado or other hazards on a local area.

Hurricane Florence has been designated a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour.

At first glance, hash browns and hurricanes don't have a lot in common.
