Parole of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam, son-in-law extended by 3 days

Hussain Nawaz, eldest son of incarcerated former president Nawaz Sharif broke down in grief on Wednesday night in London when his uncle, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif arrived to attend his sister-in-law Begum Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral prayers and take the body home.

Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, were initially granted a 12-hour parole to attend the funeral.

Maryam Nawaz also saw her grandmother and was seen weeping at most of the occasions as the relatives came to condole the death of her mother.

The Sharif family has reportedly refused to get any assistance from the Pakistan High Commission in London in the matter of repatriation of the deceased's body.

Ousted as prime minister last year by the Supreme Court over some undeclared income, Nawaz Sharif was in London with Kulsoom this year when a separate anti-graft court handed him a 10-year jail term in absentia over the ownership of luxury flats in London in the 1990s.

Her body has been moved to a mortuary near the Regent Park mosque.

Kulsoom passed away at Harley Street Clinic, London, on Tuesday, while her spouse, Nawaz Sharif, and her daughter, Maryam Nawaz, were completing their prison sentences at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.

The Saudi envoy for offered condolences to Nawaz Sharif on the demise of former First Lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz. Her sons - Hassan and Hussain Nawaz - did not return to the country from London for the funeral. Both have been declared absconders by an accountability court in corruption cases. Among the attendees were Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N leaders Chaudhry Nisar and Muhammad Ishaq Dar.

On Thursday, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of Kulsoom at London's Regent Park mosque.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered to facilitate the Sharif family regarding the bringing back the body of Kulsoom and matters related to their parole.
