Stephen Colbert Responds To Les Moonves Getting Fired At CBS

The former CBS chairman and CEO was forced to resign after Ronan Farrow published an additional six allegations of sexual misconduct against Moonves in The New Yorker on Sunday, but he hasn't severed ties with the network completely. While CBS hired two outside law firms to investigate the allegations against Moonves, it also agreed to "seek to preserve the confidentiality" of the reports "to the maximum extent possible consistent with fiduciary duties of directors and all applicable laws". Her husband, Leslie Moonves, has been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault by a high number of women.

"The article is extremely disturbing and I'm not surprised that that's it", Colbert said of Moonves' exit.

'The part you mentioned about transparency is very disturbing to me because I would think, how can we have this investigation and not know how it comes out?' King asked.

CBS announced over the weekend that Moonves will not receive money from his severance package until investigations into the allegations against him are complete. He stood behind this show while we were struggling to find our voice.

"I don't know how we move forward if we at CBS don't have full transparency about what we find", King said on her show. It is systematic and it is pervasive in our culture.

"I do believe in accountability - and not just for politicians you disagree with", Colbert said in July.

The Big Brother 20 ratings took a bit of a dip when football returned, host Julie Chen's husband is in a lot of hot water with CBS, and the network hasn't renewed the reality competition show for summer 2019. And I said, "Gayle, I'm kind of looking back to November, when we dealt with accusations against our former co-host". This has hurt morale, but there are some really, really good people that come to work every single day.

"But accountability is meaningless unless it's for everybody - whether it's the leader of a network or the leader of the free world", Colbert said.
