A search for a German pop singer who went overboard from a cruise ship off Newfoundland and Labrador has been called off.
Kueblboeck found fame in 2003 after he appeared on Germany Seeks The Superstar; he later went on to star in various reality TV shows including I'm A Star - Get Me Out Of Here! and Let's Dance.
Gough says in an email that the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received a report around 5 a.m. Sunday that Kueblboeck had gone overboard off the cruise ship Aida Luna about 110 nautical miles north of St. John's, N.L.
Aida Cruises did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.
Dpa says Kueblboeck's management agency is not immediately available for comment. Another cruise ship that was due in port Sunday has reportedly turned back to assist the AidaLuna. Two coast guard ships were also dispatched and were expected to arrive Sunday afternoon.
'The police dropped the ball' - Cele on 'war zone' crime stats
Sekhukhune said that seven of the 10 police stations that report the highest number of murder cases are found in the Western Cape. Police Minister Bheki Cele delivered the crime statistics, for 2017/ 2018 at a briefing in Parliament today.
The coast guard is now searching for the singer.
A different cruise ship that was also expected to dock Sunday is thought to have returned to sea to help in the search.
A passenger was seen throwing himself into the sea, and the search of the boat then established that the singer was missing, the cruise line said.
Aida Cruises tweeted late Sunday morning that someone had jumped overboard early Sunday.
