According to Bloomberg, Apple is plotting its first update to the Mac mini in four years. The superior 12-inch MacBook starts at $1,299 (£1,249, AU$1,899). The current MacBook Air (which has merely been getting year-to-year specs bumps) is the last Apple laptop without a "Retina" display and with limited (very distracting) viewing angles.
Apple now sells the MacBook Air starting at $999. However, it will have a roughly 13-inch display that's higher than the Retina panel used on other recent notebooks from the firm.
Both the new Mac devices are likely going to launch later this year - sometime around October - after the company launches its new iPhone devices.
Of course, to the surprise of absolutely no one, the cutting-edge Mac Mini Pro is said to be more expensive than the version that's on sale right now.
Still, in the fiscal third quarter this year, the company said it sold 3.7 million Macs, the fewest in a quarter since 2010.
Quanta Computer Inc. and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. make the current generation of MacBooks and will make the new generation as well, the people familiar with Apple's plans said.
Harry Kane has this warning for his fellow stars
Tottenham have confirmed an agreement has been reached with UEFA to play their first Champions League group home game at Wembley. He has since been heavily involved in Chelsea's opening fixtures of the season, making starts against Huddersfield and Arsenal.
But Apple has felt the loss, especially in the education market.
"HP and Lenovo have released products priced similarly to the MacBook Air, gaining share, and in order to remain competitive in that price point, we think a form-factor change is necessary", Shannon Cross, an analyst at Cross Research, said.
The report also aims to shed some light on the new Mac mini model. Though that doesn't include the price for a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, it's still far cheaper than Apple's next cheapest computer, the MacBook Air. The computer has been favored because of its lower price, and it's popular with app developers, those running home media centers, and server farm managers. The new model - which, as before, is expected to come without a display or peripherals in the box - will be focused on "pro users" insiders say.
Coming to the Mac mini, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Debby Wu report that the machine is going to be targeted to creative professionals, which can only mean that we can expect to see Intel's 6-core processors rocking inside a slim enclosure followed by Radeon Pro graphics, which are the same hardware specifications found in the 15-inch MacBook Pro lineup.
The "Mac Mini Pro" could easily be the new name of the Mac Mini 2018 described by Bloomberg citing anonymous sources.
