Google has started sending out emails to users users informing about this new agreement between them and WhatsApp.

'However, any WhatsApp backups that have not been updated in more than a year will automatically be removed from storage'. All of that is going to change in three months as Google and WhatsApp are getting a better backup solution very soon. We too received an email from Google, a screenshot of which has been attached below. The auto-delete feature kicks in on 12 November, and the only way to make sure you're files and messages stay on the drive is via a manual backup. With WhatsApp backups not counting against Google Drive storage quota, users will no longer have to worry about their free Google Drive storage (which is 15 GB for all by default) being eaten up by WhatsApp backups.

If you haven't backup your WhatsApp to Drive before, you can do so under Menu Settings Chats Chat backup.

While Android has the option to back up your data onto Google Drive for a long time, Google is now set to enable an option to let users manually save their backups. The new option, which is likely to ease the backup process especially if you instantly need to preserve your personal data, will be a part of a future Android update.
