Franklin's recording of "Precious Lord (Take My Hand)" - one of Martin Luther King Jr.'s favorite gospel tracks which she sang at his funeral in 1968 - filled the church as a woman dressed in black and red danced. "I've known [for] sometime about her condition, and I just prayed, even though the odds were very, very, very insane - when you think two out of 100 would succeed - [that she] would beat this thing". "Throughout her extraordinary life and career, she earned the love - and yes, the respect - of millions of people, not just for herself and for women everywhere, but for the city she loved so dearly and called home". His movie credentials - as a producer on the music side - run the gamut from Hudson's "Dreamgirls" to "Pitch Perfect" to "Sparkle", the 2012 musical that marked Whitney Houston's final cinematic appearance.
Shaw said the concert itself went by fast for both nights and said it was a hard, professional gig.
"My duty is to do something that really honors Aretha and treats her in the manner I have been accustomed to dealing with her".
So in March, I sent her a text, just to let her know she was on my mind. "My whole goal is to do something ... her fans would be proud of and something that stands up to her legacy".
"I don't understand why it's so hard for longtime artists in the music industry who have numerous awards and citations and things like that to even get a pittance of an offer from Hollywood. There was a lot of discussion about a lot of people, but Aretha was adamant that it be Jennifer".
A representative for Hudson said she has no further comment at this time.

King was a good friend of her father, occasionally visiting Detroit to spend time in their home or at her father's New Bethel Baptist Church, Franklin told NPR in 1999. As collaborators, he says, she appreciated that he was prepared "to bring something to the table".
But, after some practicing and giving it their all, he said the person who was playing the lead trumpet smiled, slapped him and his then roommate Snowden on the knees and said, "You guys are my team". She would sometimes agree with my suggestions.
In a heartfelt tribute from the Obamas, the former president and his wife Michelle praised Franklin's "unmatched musicianship", which they said "helped define the American experience".
"There's a revival in this city and it will be on the back of the spirit of the Queen", he said.
