NBC announced on Wednesday that David Schwimmer will have a recurring guest role in season two of Will & Grace.

NBC is staging a big Must See TV reunion onWill & Grace next season.

It will be the actor's first appearance on network primetime TV since Friends went off the air in 2004.

He has starred on cable though - most notably as Robert Kardashian in FX's American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson and in AMC's one-season drama Feed the Beast. Though Grace had a smattering of romantic subplots in Season 9 - including a run-in with her ex-husband Leo (Harry Connick Jr.), she hasn't found herself in any kind of longterm relationship yet, so Schwimmer's addition will be a nice change, even if it's just for five episodes.

The comedy went off the air in 2006 after eight seasons and returned in the fall of 2017 with all four original castmembers - Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mulally and Sean Hayes.

Asked by Deadline earlier this year what's in store for Will & Grace next season, co-creator Max Mutchnick said, "We're trying to open up the series this year". "Last year was about coming back and seeing how the audience was going to respond, and they embraced the show, and that was thrilling".

"Will & Grace" Season 2 premieres October 4 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
