Future broadcasts will be three hours long and will include a new category that is designed around achievement in popular film.

John Bailey has been re-elected as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences by the organization's board of governors, which met Tuesday night.

The requirements aren't known just yet, though we assume it will be to integrate films that are more popular with the buying public rather than exclusively the critics.

Ironically, the Academy will look like it had a great idea here next Oscarcast, but a lot of that will be if the billion-dollar ceiling-shattering zeitgeist Marvel movie Black Panther gets nominations, especially if the film is in the mix for Best Picture.

Qualifier Daniil Medvedev upsets Jack Sock in Rogers Cup first round
The 2018 Wimbledon finalists will face South Korea's Chung Hyeon and America's Steve Johnson in the first round on Tuesday. Canada's Milos Raonic got off to a strong start at the Rogers Cup , beating David Goffin of Belgium 6-3, 6-4 on Monday.

In a letter sent to members, the Academy also announced that the telecast will now be kept to under three hours which means that some of the 24 categories will be announced during commercial breaks and then edited into the ceremony later on. Though it pulled in 26.5 million viewers, the ratings were down 19% compared to the previous year. Winning moments will be edited and later aired during the broadcast. The 92nd Oscars have also been brought forward from 23 February to 9 February 2020, though the eligibility dates for Oscar releases and the voting period will remain the same. Eligibility requirements for the popular film category will be forthcoming.

-And starting in 2020, the telecast will move up to an earlier date, most likely to the chagrin of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, shifting from February 23rd to Sunday, February 9, 2020.

The 91st Oscars telecast remains as announced on Sunday, February 24, 2019.

We have heard from many of you about improvements needed to keep the Oscars and our Academy relevant in a changing world. The Board of Governors took this charge seriously.
