Qualcomm sets date for event unveiling new Wear OS chipsets

Qualcomm has sent out invites to members of the press with a picture of a smartwatch and, in case that wasn't enough of a giveaway, a tag line that says "set your watches". This will be all about watches, as you can see from the invite, which means you should get ready for a new wearable chipset to be unveiled.

Back in May, Qualcomm told us it will be upgrading its aging Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset this year.

We learned back in May that Qualcomm has been working on an upgraded chipset for smartwatches, but now it's nearly here as the launch date has been set for the first half of next month. That successor is said to be called the Snapdragon 3100 according to Winfuture.de and it is based on the same 28nm node as the Snapdragon 2100.

Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis explains why Adama Traore is signing for Wolves
Newly-promoted Wolves announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday morning with the caption: "Bienvenido Adama" to welcome Traore to Molineux.

Exactly what the new chipset will bring is now unclear - the invite doesn't offer any clear hints at the new tech.

As we've previously reported, this announcement is expected to reinvigorate the Android smartwatch segment and provide a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon Wear 2100, which is now the best Qualcomm chipset available for wearables.

There is gonna be more than one, it seems.
