Build-A-Bear Workshop said they are turning down additional customers at their United States and Canada stores as crowds swarmed their stores for "Pay Your Age" day.

The statement - which was posted 8 a.m. PT on the company's Facebook page - continued: "We have closed lines in our USA stores". However the company didn't realize how popular the event would be.

The company released in a statement: "Per local authorities, we can not accept additional Guests at our U.K Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns".

Customers flocked to stores around the country Thursday morning hoping to snag a discounted Build-A-Bear but instead were met with lines that rivaled Black Friday crowds. "We are working to address the situation, and we will be reaching out to our valued guests soon".

Huge lines were spotted at Build-A-Bear locations that spanned the inside of malls. The most any one would pay was $29.

The company said they will be honoring the vouchers until August 31, 2018.

By 1 p.m. Thursday, at least 400 people still lined the Boise mall's hallways with exhausted children sitting on their mother's hips and smaller kids impatiently waiting in strollers.

Some customers, however, did have a positive experience, noting that the Build-A-Bear staff was "attentive", "quick-moving", and "made their children very happy".

Police confirmed they had attended the Build-A-Bear store to "maintain order" but no offences were detected. Children as young as 1 could pay $1 for a teddy bear. These vouchers will be good through August 31.

The company said vouchers for a future purchase were distributed to people waiting in line and would be honored through August 31.

"Security said that it was an issue with the Fire Marshall, we've heard everything, and we chose to stand our ground, and we're still here and we're not leaving without a bear", Stowers said while waiting in line.
