Liverpool have triggered the £13.5m release clause in Shaqiri's contract and the move will see the winger play his football at Anfield next season.

The former Basel star has played for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan so he has plenty of experience of top level football and he'll provide competition for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in attack this coming season.

"I was always an admirer of his so I'm happy to reunite with him". I'm really happy that now I'm finally here.

Shaqiri has been on holiday following Switzerland's elimination from the World Cup but is set to join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training next week.

The German wasted no time in starting his transfer business, bringing in Brazilian midfielder Fabinho from Monaco while Naby Keita completed his long-awaited move from RB Leipzig.

Talks between Stoke and Liverpool over a £13million deal advanced in recent days and the 26-year-old winger has been unveiled as the club's third signing of the summer transfer window. "That's what I'm here for".

"I know the coach from Germany, when he was at Dortmund", Shaqiri told Liverpoolfc.com during his first official interview - which you can watch in full with LFCTV GO above. "When someone like him becomes available in this way you have to react if you are smart - and we have", Klopp said.

"We are the flawless move for him in this moment as well I think, because he needs to push himself and challenge himself and our environment encourages that". He gives us greater flexibility in how we can use our current players also.
