England got carried away with talk of the final, insists Roy Keane

Roy Keane

ITVRoy Keane's tan was the talking point ahead of England's clash with Croatia

Following England's heartbreaking loss to Croatia after extra time in the semi-finals of the epic footballing tournament that has been Russian Federation 2018, the pair got into a right old ding-dong in the TV studio.

Keane may not have been impressed by Wright's attempts to mimic his Irish accent as voices were raised in the ITV studio, but the discussion appeared to end on a good note, with fellow panelists Gary Neville and Lee Dixon doing their best not to laugh as the duo went toe-to-toe. Stones is ball-watching, and then when the ball goes in he's looking at people saying nobody gave me a shout - you're not going to get a shout in a World Cup semi-final! "Everyone was talking about the final, football's coming home". Wrighty was having none of it.

"You're talking about the final?"

'I know England may have thought it was a bit tongue and cheek a few weeks ago, but you've got to focus on just one game at a time.

Roy Keane said: "I don't mind ya being happy but you were getting carried away".

Keane added: "And I was right".

Dejan Lovren makes SHOCK revelation after Croatia beat England
England coach Gareth Southgate said his team set a "new benchmark" by narrowly falling short of a place in the World Cup final. And the Liverpool defender cheekily said that it has something to do with the parents across the country.

Keane, never one to let a potential dust-up pass, wasn't letting Wright forget that 1966 world champions England had been sent packing.

"The whole yesterday and today they were talking about the final the final the final", Keane began. "You need a reality check".

The Ireland assistant manager said: "We've talked about how comfortable England are playing out from the back and while Stones is comfortable on the ball you still have the act of defending - players can smell danger". It was the semi-final, group matches.

"You are a grown man, you have played the game".

The former Manchester United player is being ridiculed for his orange glow online, with supporters comparing him to Umpa-Lumpas. You know how hard it is to get to these finals or even get to the World Cup.
