PGA confirmed the place and time of the new Detroit tournament on Tuesday morning with the release of their 2018-2019 schedule.
TPC Twin Cities in Blaine will play host to the FedEx Cup event running July 1-7.
"We will be working with the PGA Tour to make the Detroit stop one of the most exciting and engaging events on the professional golf calendar". Dubbed the Aon Risk Reward Challenge, the competition will award a player with the best cumulative score on "the most strategically challenging holes across both the PGA Tour and LPGA schedules" next season.
This year's Tour Championship ends September 23.

"And by concluding at the end of August, the FedEx Cup playoffs no longer have the challenge of sharing the stage with college and professional football".
In the 2018-19 schedule, the FedEx St. Jude Invitational will follow the season's final major championship - The Open Championship - on the schedule and will be followed by the regular season's final event, the Wyndham Championship, before transitioning into the FedExCup Playoffs, which have been shortened to three events. Then there is considerable change from past years. The other World Golf Championships are the Mexico Championship (Mexico City, Mexico), the Dell Technologies Match Play (Austin, Texas) and the HSBC Champions (Shanghai, China). Puerto Rico is slotted for February 18-24, the same week as the WGC-Mexico Championship.
The 3M Open will be held two weeks before players head across the pond for The Open Championship, which will be held in Northern Ireland in 2019.
The tournament is slated for television broadcast on The Golf Channel and CBS.
