Louis' godparents will be announced on the day, but judging by George and Charlotte's christenings, they are likely to be close friends and confidantes of William and Kate.

But one shock absence, revealed this morning, was the Queen who pulled out of the event with husband Prince Philip.

Proud parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their way into the service in London with their three children. (Charlotte's ceremony took place at St. Mary Magdalene Church, in Sandringham, instead.) Kate Middleton herself also received communion at the Chapel Royal just before her wedding to Prince William.

The only senior members of the royal family in attendance will be The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

"She loved all the old classics and Harry had the brilliant idea of starting a little library of first editions for Louis, Charlotte and George to enjoy as they get older".

Who are Prince Louis' godparents?

Mr. Nicholas van Cutsem is one of William and Harry's oldest friends.

It will be Meghan's first time at a royal christening if she attends as expected. For Princess Charlotte's big moment in 2016, Middleton dressed in head to toe white in an Alexander McQueen dress (which she wore again in 2017), with delicate silver jewelry and a flower-filled fascinator.

Metro UK reports that Meghan and Pippa Middleton will attend the 40-minute service, which is reserved for close family and friends.

The robe, made by the Queen's senior dresser Angela Kelly, is a replica of the intricate lace and satin dress made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter in 1841.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's family of five will be seen together for the first time when Prince Louis is christened later.

At his christening on October 23, 2013 at the Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace in London, Prince George was dressed up in the newly made replica of the classic Victorian christening gown.

After the ceremony, the guests will descend on a private tea afternoon at Clarence House and indulge in some desserts - including a tier from Kate and William's 2011 wedding cake.
