The College of William and Mary issued an alert about the crash near its campus but has confirmed that it did not occur on school property.
Police say they are still working to locate and identify the pilot of the helicopter, which crashed in a residential area in Williamsburg and started a fire at a townhouse.
"We can not get into the building, because there is still fire inside the building", Anaya said.
The Virginia State Police said in a release Monday that Jean Lonchak Danylko, 91, of Williamsburg, was killed in the condominium where she lived.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
