Amir-Abollahian says Syrians will not allow Israel to control Syria

Iran to maintain military presence in Syria, to counter Israel

'Our air defence systems thwarted an Israeli aggression and brought down a number of missiles that were targeting the T4 airport, ' it cited a military source as saying.

In the past, any successful air defense use against Israeli attacks was met by more intense Israeli strikes, and officials warning that Syria ought not resist future salvos.

The base, where Iranian forces and Lebanese "Hezbollah" fighters are believed to be stationed, was repeatedly targeted in the past few months.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said Israel does not comment on foreign reports.

Attacks on the T-4 based mark a new phase in Israel's defense against Iranian provocation, which has included in the past sending an armed drone into Israeli airspace.

This is third time this year that Israel is reported to have struck T-4 airbase following attacks in February and April.

Iranian women are dancing to protest the arrest of a teenage Instagrammer
As of now, it's unclear whether the teen dancer made her statement under duress. "It wasn't for attracting attention", she said. I did not have any intention to encourage others doing the same I didn't work with a team, I received no training.

The TV aired a cell phone video footage, showing the air defence missiles twinkling in the night chasing the Israeli targets.

Israel blew up the drone and carried out a raid on Syrian air defenses, in which one of its F-16 jets was downed.

The channel, quoting an unidentified military official, said the attack targeted the T4 air base with six missiles. The Syrian government has repeatedly condemned the Israeli aggression and warned about its unsafe repercussions.

In May, there was an unprecedented escalation between Israel and Iran in Syria, with the Israeli army claiming it hit dozens of Iranian military targets across the border in response to what it said were rockets fired by Iranians at the occupied Golan Heights.

Israel seized a large swathe of the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in 1981, in a move never recognised by the global community. "Second, we will demand that Syria, and the Syrian military, strictly uphold the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement", Netanyahu said.

Sunday's strikes coincided with the Assad government's progress, backed by Russian support, in the nearby southern province of Daraa.
