Casey, who had led the Raptors to three consecutive 50-win seasons, was named coach of the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

On Tuesday, the Raptors finally made a decision to move forward with Nurse, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, in an effort to get a new lead voice in the locker room but not go through a total staff change given their success developing players and in the regular season.

Nurse is finalizing contract terms with Toronto, but met with president Masai Ujiri and general manager Bobby Webster on Tuesday morning to accept the job, sources said. Casey was sacked after the Raptors were swept out of the second round of this year's playoffs by Cleveland.
