A community fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, more than 400 Relay for Life events were held across Canada previous year, mostly in larger urban centres, which was the reason behind the Lockeport Relay for Life event being started in 2012. "Not only the survivor or the person going through cancer, but also the caregivers", said Eric Witham, Relay For Life logistics event chair. "I Relay because it is heartwarming, inspirational and WE Make a Difference!"

The preteens and teens organized a lemonade stand to raise money for the American Cancer Society. "This event helps people bond together, and Miami County has been very supportive to its survivors". Local businesses who have gone out of their way to ensure our event is a huge success year after year. "Oh my gosh, that was so huge", Jackson laughed recalling last year's event. A resident of the Finger Lakes area in NY, she is a member of National Relay Leadership Team as well as the Northeast Regional Leadership Team.

"As of right now the scans are looking good, I want to say yes, but cancer is a nasty thing", said Cooper.
This is the second year that Mcdonald hosted the relay at its downtown park.
