As the title suggests, "Piano & A Microphone 1983" was recorded by Prince in 1983, and consists of nine intimate home recordings Prince made at the piano.
Nine previously unreleased tracks recorded by Prince in 1983 will be released as "Piano and a Microphone 1983" on September 21.
The album has been floating around for years in bootleg form, along with dozens of other Prince recordings, although the official version will have more tracks than were available on the bootleg.

The album will feature early versions of one of Prince's biggest hits, Purple Rain, as well as the track Strange Relationship, which eventually appeared on his acclaimed 1987 album Sign O' The Times.
An avowed fan of Joni Mitchell, Prince not only recorded a piano version of her song "A Case of You", he performed it in concert throughout his career, including in Atlanta during his second-to-last show seven days before his death. The album will contain 9 tracks and run 35 minutes long.

Prince's final tour was also a solo piano outing, a fact estate adviser Troy Carter noted in a news release: "This raw, intimate recording, which took place at the start of Prince's career right before he achieved worldwide stardom ..."
