macOS 10.14 getting dark mode, Apple News, and possibly cross-device apps

Apple Announces ARKit 2, Measure App, USDZ File Format

Apple has confirmed that the developer preview of macOS Mojave is now available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com.

It now has a new viewing feature that will show a large preview of the file you have selected and you can activate a column on the side to view detailed information about the files, such as metadata. Mojave also comes with a new way to declutter files by using "stacks", which are essentially automatic groupings of files types, as well as items with specific dates and other tags.

The Mac App Store will get a visual refresh with the upcoming macOS Mojave update. macOS 10.14 will bring in a new design for the store similar to update we received previously for the App Store in iOS 11.

The new OS introduces a few major changes, the biggest of which is the ability for some iOS apps to work on MacOS - another blurring of lines between Apple's two main operating systems. Unlike a folder, files in Stacks are directly accessible and you can scrub through them.

On Reddit, a running thread is breaking down the various app compatibility issues with macOS 10.14. The company is moving from mountains to deserts and therefore, has named the new update a desert in California, Mojave and no, I'm honestly not aware how it's pronounced but I'm sure we'll figure it out soon. The Mac App Store has also been updated with the same experience as iOS, which features rich editorial content to discover the right Mac app, while tabs such as Create, Work, Play and Develop helps users to find the app for specific goal. Stocks app and Voice Memos is also coming to the Mac. Even Screenshots have been improved in Mojave with the introduction of a video capture. New data protections in Safari mean apps will need to get user permission before using the Mac camera and microphone.

Apple to introduce new privacy features for devices
First, there's Dark Mode. "Dark Mode brings a dramatic new look to macOS that puts your content front and center", said Federighi. Interested in Apple? Add Apple as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Apple news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

Quick Actions allow users to do things like create and password-protect PDFs and run custom Automator Actions on files right from Finder. Apple also promised to remove cookies which act as a tracking code for many websites out of Safari completely.

By selecting a portion of the screen just like you would for a still image, users can immediately begin recording whatever happens in that area. It also flags reused passwords so users can change them.

Once you link your phone to your computer, many apps will have a new "Take Photo" option at your disposal (alternatively you can also use your iPhone to scan documents).

A new "Remote Application Mirroring" policy in Apple's App Store review guidelines may indicate there's hope for Valve's recently rejected Steam Link app.
