Yesterday, Apple introduced a range of features at its WWDC developer conference that are meant to help you spend less time on your smartphone.
"For some of us, it's become such a habit that we might not even recognize just how distracted we've become", Mr. Federighi told an audience of more than 6,000 developers. Parents can also add time limits to specific apps, allowing children on their phones for a select amount of time.
Apple of course unveiled a brand new version of its Apple Watch operating system, watchOS 5.
Jana Partners applauded the changes.
Regardless, there's now a sense, at least in some segments of society, that something has gone wrong with technology and that it's doing harmful things to us and our kids.

Apple's decision to introduce tools to help people use their smartphones less should come as no surprise, according to an industry analyst. It's also a chance for the world's most valuable tech company to lay out its vision for the future of the iPhone and consumer tech broadly.
Another headline announcement at Apple's event was the firm's firmer stance on protecting user data.
Apple is taking a swipe at ubiquitous "share" buttons created by Facebook and others to track users' behavior online regardless of whether they click on them.
The new Apple features won't reach users for a few months.
Along with ARKit 2, Apple announced a new app called Measure that lets you measure objects and distances in augmented reality.
In additional to a range of system-wide performance enhancements, new developments in Apple's augmented reality (AR) platform on mobile and more, the company showcased a myriad of new iOS 12 features from powerful updates to core apps like News, Stocks and Books, to entirely new features created to curb device usage, and even a personal new take on Animoji dubbed Memoji.
Apple also rolled out group video chat sessions with up to 32 users, putting it in direct competition with companies such as Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO.O) and Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) Skype. It will also have some new augmented reality features, including a new file format that's being supported by Adobe called USDZ. "This conference was all about courting the developer community, which is the linchpin to the future success of Apple", wrote analyst Daniel Ives of GBH Insights.
